Tetsujin #28-gou

Description

Tetsujin #28-gou was one of the first mecha manga, alongside with Atomic Power Android (no information whatsoever) to feature humanoid robot controlled via remote controller, making it one of the first media to popularize the genre. It was originally 24 volumes manga ran from June 1956 to April 1966, then in 1963 it was adapted into 96 episodes anime, in North America it was renamed as a "Gigantor", since Marvel Comic's appears in the market before Tetsujin (Iron Man), later remastered in 1980 now in color. After that, it's sequel "Tetsujin #28-gou FX" came out in 1992. Nearly 40 years later, in 2004, a complete remake came out by Genco & Gansis Studio and was directed by Yasuhiro Imagawa (Giant Robo, G Gundam).

Dr. Kaneda was developing experimental giant robot warriors to fight the allies during the Second World War, but before his creations could see action, Allied bombs destroyed the facility and killed him. A decade later criminals discovered two of the surviving prototypes, #26 and 27 in the series, and used the remote controlled robots to commit a number of crimes. Young Shotaro Kaneda, the twelve year old son of Dr. Kaneda, did some investigating and discovered that the mob were hunting for the twenty-eighth robot in the series, rumoured to be the most powerful of them all. Racing the villains, Shotaro discovers the robot first, along with Dr. Shikishima, a colleague of his father who was also believed to be killed by the Allied bombing. Together the two prevent Tetsujin 28-go (the robot's official designation) from falling into the hands of the bad guys and decide to dedicate him to peace rather than war.

Shotaro Kaneda is a young boy whose dead scientist father created the giant robot Tetsujin 28 after realizing the chances of attacks from outer galaxies. Shotaro has possession of the only controller, kept in an attaché case, which enables him to have direct command of the all mighty Tetsujin 28. If the controller goes into the hands of the enemy, this could lead Tetsujin 28 to fight for villains who want to destroy The Earth.
