Mobile Suit Gundam

Gundam is a Anime military science fiction media franchise. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino for Sunrise (now a division of Bandai Namco Filmworks), the franchise features giant robots, or mecha, known as "Mobile Suits", typically including a prominent one carrying the name "Gundam". The franchise began with the premiere of the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam on April 7, 1979, which defined the "real robot" mecha anime genre by depicting giant robots (including the original titular mecha) within a militaristic setting.

Across it's 40+ years of existence, Gundam franchise spawned the many series, coming from the official timeline (Universal Century/U.C) and non-official (Alternative Universes/A.U).

To this day, there are still discourses online about timeline and in what kind of it every series belong to, but i think the one showing here is pretty much helping anyone who wants to get into the series. Except i'll put "Recognuista in G" in Self-Contained universe as it, like Turn A, takes place far from UC (to be clear, after it), in Regild Century. But, still, the list is good enough.

Universal Century (U.C)

Main series list:

• Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) - the very first series
• Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1984) - sequel to the 1979 series
• Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (1986) - sequel to both 1979 series & Zeta Gundam
• Mobile Suit Gundam - Char's Counterattack (1988) - a conclusion movie to 1979 series, Zeta Gundam and ZZ
• Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island (2022) - a movie adaptation of original 1979 series 15th episode that was popular for it's poor quality and the fact that it was erased from it's re-releases. Not really much of an OG series, but i don't know where to put, so let it be here.

• Mobile Suit Gundam F91 (1991) - distant sequel movie to Char's Counterattack directed by the Yoshiyuki Tomino himself

• Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (1989) - first ever Gundam's spin-off series that takes place exactly a year after original 1979 series's events. • Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory (1991) - takes place two years after War in the Pocket series, Stardust Memory sums up the story of Titans's organization creation
• Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team (1996) - takes place during The One Year War (1979 series)
• G-Saviour (1999) - a live action American movie that takes place in U.C 0223
• MS IGLOO series (2004-2008) - a series of OVAs taking place in 0079 during different points of original 1979 series
• Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt (2015) - a OVA series based on the Yasuo Ohtakagaki's manga with the same name, taking place during The One Year War and 8 months after it.
• Mobile Suit Gundam: Twilight AXIS (2017) - a web anime adaptation of Kojiro Nakamura's novel with the same name
• Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin (2015-2018) - theatrical OVA series adapting volumes V - VII of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's manga with the same name
• Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance (2024) - a ONA series taking place 11 months after The One Year War

• Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuux (2025) - taking place after The One Year War, it's the alternative U.C where Zeon wins the war and Gundam is Zeon's property

• Mobile Fighter G Gundam (1994) - the first ever AU series in the franchise, where humanity instead of war comes to the concept of Gundam Fights. Future Colony (FC) 60
• Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (1995) - second AU that aired internationally, was the most popular Gundam at the time (end of 90s - start of 2000s) because of it's official airing on Cartoon Network's Toonami block. After Colony (AC) 195
• After War X Gundam (1996) - not that much of a standalone entry since it relies on just to know something about Gundam's worldbuilding but rather a "What If" scenario where The One Year War ended with ruining civilization. After War (AW) 15
• Turn A Gundam (Ɐ Gundam) (1999) - thousands of years after the last catastrophe of the wars, in which nanomachine-powered Gundams devastated the Earth’s surface and annihilated most of the population. Correct Century (CC) 2343 - 2345

• Gundam Build Fighters series(2013-2020) - a series showing Gundam's Gunpla popularity and how many people is interested in it. Our Times
• Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (2015-2017) - a gritty, grounded story following a group of child soldiers who mutiny against their abusive handlers and form their own security company, dealing with political intrigue and brutal, beam-free physical combat. Post Disaster (PD) 323
